The 1st official AMI Montessori Primary (3 – 6) Diploma Course in Vietnam

The course is organized by University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM) in collaboration with Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), Montessori Training Center Northeast (MTCNE-USA) and Vietnam Montessori Association Company (VNA). The Diploma is officially granted by AMI and recognized all over the world.

Montessori is a pedagogical method based on the research of an Italian doctor and educator, Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952). The Montessori method has been recognized for its advanced effectiveness and widely used throughout the world for over 100 years.

Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1929 is the leading prestigious organization in Montessori education with activities associated with the United Nations. AMI has the role of coordinating with affiliates and partner organizations around the world to deploy, administer and monitor teacher training programs and tutors, research and development programs on Montessori method.

In the hope of providing well-trained, eligible pre-school Montessori teachers in Vietnam, since 2012, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH-VNUHCM) has signed the MoU with Association Montessori Internationale to bring the leading role of supporting AMI in introducing and promoting Montessori education to Vietnam. Until now, there have been seven Montessori Assistant Courses with more than 500 students graduated from the courses at USSH-VNUHCM.

Based on the success of these short-term training courses, USSH-VNUHCM in collaboration with AMI, Montessori Training Center Northeast (MTCNE) - USA and Vietnam Montessori Association Company (VMA) are planning to organize a long-term training course, AMI Primary Diploma Course, for preschool teachers and individuals who are interested in educating children aged 3-6.


Course Overview
- Promoting the training and application of Montessori education methods, creating a basis for integrating Montessori education into preschool education programs in Vietnam;
- Helping trainees to organize effective teaching programs and methods suitable for children from 3 to 6 years old in accordance with Montessori preschool education philosophy and method.

Course Units
- Psychology, child development and philosophy of the Montessori approach;
- The Exercises of Practical Life and the child's Acquisition of fundamental learning skills;
- Sensorial development;
- Development of spoken and written language;
- Mathematics;
- Geography, History, Art, Biology and Music.
- Supervised practice with the Montessori materials under guidance of qualified staff
- Observation in AMI classes;
- Practice Teaching in AMI classes under supervision of the trainers;
- Material making.
- Preparation of albums containing illustrated notes of didactic materials.

In addition to English – Vietnamese simultaneous lectures delivered by AMI Trainers, the students are required to attend workshops which enrich their knowledge and experience in Montessori philosophy and method.

Observation and Practice Teaching in AMI qualified classrooms world-wide is offered between Block sessions.

The practice space is fully equipped with Nienhuis Montessori Materials in accordance with AMI standards.

Course Schedule

Diploma course starts on September 16, 2019 and will be divided into 2 blocks:
- 1st Block: Sep 16 - Dec 20, 2019
- 2nd Block: June 23 - Sep 25, 2020
- Timings: 9am - 5pm Mondays to Fridays
Saturdays 9am - 4pm (maximum 2 Saturdays per month)
Between the two blocks, students need to complete 90 hours of observation and 89 hours of teaching practice.


Mrs. Diwo Lhamo Pemba, an AMI Primary Trainer from MTCNE

Mrs. Lhamo is an AMI trainer from Tibetan – Bhutanese ethnicity. After obtaining a teaching certificate from Mount Hermon Teacher’s Training College, she went on to receive her AMI Primary Diploma at the Maria Montessori Training Organization in London under the training of Mrs. Lynne Lawrence (AMI Executive Director). In 2007, she did her A to I with Judi Orion (Head AMI Training Division) in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Mrs. Lhamo has been working in the USA since 2004 in many roles including teacher, consultant and trainer. She is presently a full AMI Primary Trainer who has conducted a number of courses in USA, India, Vietnam, Egypt, Mongolia. Most recently Lhamo has directed two AMI Primary Training Courses on the continent of Africa in Egypt and Morocco.

Trainer: Ms. Lhamo Pemba – an AMI Primary Trainer who has conducted a number of assistant training courses in Vietnam (who has many years of attachment to Vietnam through the Assistant Courses)

Course Fee: The cost is $US 6,000 plus $45 AMI Membership fee.
